Like me, you were probably born and raised in a certain place with a father, a mother, and perhaps brothers and sisters. Most likely, there were also aunts, uncles, and cousins. Some authors claim in their books that we chose our parents and family long before we were born, arguing that we did so to learn specific lessons. This would be akin to an in-service training, where we can select the right teachers ourselves.

Is Life All About Learning?

According to these writers, learning is the most important aspect of our lives. We each have unique lessons to learn, which is why we choose the family and circumstances best suited to our learning journey. This theory explains why sometimes things don’t work out immediately, and why we must repeat certain tasks until we master them.

Are Your Teachers Right for You?

Sometimes, we never learn certain things, and it can feel like the people we supposedly chose are not meeting our expectations. Everyone is entitled to their mistakes in life, right? But what if the idea of pre-

selecting our family isn’t true, and we simply end up in a random family? Typically, our family members will do their best to prepare us for the world.

What Do You Want Your World to Look Like?

In an average family, life is often about listening and obeying. Parents can only teach what they themselves learned. My parents used to say, "If you’re born on a dime, you’ll probably never be a quarter." This implies that you should know your place and capabilities. But will you ever truly know who you are and what you’re capable of?

Have You Reached Full Maturity?

Many people end up as copies of their parents or ancestors. Carl Gustav Jung discussed this in his book "The Archetypes," explaining where certain character traits and behaviors originate. If people aren’t triggered by something, they often remain within the same boundaries set by their family. They want to change but fear rejection from family and friends.

Do You Feel Alone in a Crowd?

Do you ever feel alone in a room full of people who tell you what to do and disapprove of your choices? Are you afraid of losing these people who no longer matter to you? Do you ever want to break free and do something that brings you joy, without having to hide it from friends and family? Imagine how much happier and wiser you could be by pursuing what truly fulfills you.

Do You Ever Dream of Another Life?

Consider the story of a young woman born into an average family in the polder. She spoke in a rural dialect and dressed traditionally. She moved to the posh west of the country and worked hard for a broadcaster, but her appearance and behavior held her back. Realizing she needed to adapt, she changed her appearance and accent, which eventually led to her becoming a director at a major television network.

Do you know about "The Chameleon Effect?"

After a weekend off, she returned to work with a completely new look and attitude, leaving her rural accent behind. Although it might seem superficial, these changes helped her advance in her career. She supported her family better with her new salary and interacted with more appealing people.

Can you embrace change?

The moral of this story is to try something different and see what it brings you. Life is too short to live someone else’s life. Embrace change, confront your fears, and discover your true potential. Good luck!
