Subah-e-Banaras
Manikarnika woke when the clock surpassed two
Eruption were of whispers “this dawn who?”
Thudded shudders, ceased was one breath again
Withered be the dreams, mist in gazes of last remain
Him who boasted to never be tied by white
Laid unfazed, unmoved under sanguine light
What did he build, what left in death’s wake
No one dared, harsh weighed the lesson of life’s sake
Oblivious, I rooted my eyes, tracing that first emerged hue
Divinity engulfed me, mass gathered, amid chants anew
Saffron replaced my troubled stance
Who remained of me, what identity I carried so forth
Shattered were the walls, bade adieu the deluded worth
And when I stood so lost amidst the rush of dreams
Blaring the smiles, hopes hopped under Lanka’s gleams
Taking the leap to build a home, many who blinked at dawn
Gone was the comfort, embraced the newness that born
Tears of conflict that ashone his eyes at first voice
Slipped were his fingers, once entwined in rejoice
Every other eye his own drawn with gloomy glory
Found another conflict as blurring train screamed the silent story
Some longed for home, some to stay away from pain
Those some who entered, some departed under dawn of rain
The dreamers, the seekers, the worshippers, the loners
The blend at every strap,
Each dawn I seek the faces, jumbled I find my own being
Until the dusk wrap!
