All about Kamika EKadashi 2023
In Hinduism, Kamika Ekadashi is considered an auspicious day to worship Lord Vishnu. Worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day purifies the soul and aids in the attainment of salvation.
It also aids in the acquisition of Punya, which is equivalent to the Punya earned by performing a 'Ashwamedha Yaga', donating a cow, or doing Yagnas. Apart from that, fasting on this day benefits in the removal of illness, the rejuvenation of the body, and the purification of the mind.
Rituals to follow on the day
- On this auspicious day, get up at Brahma Muhurta and take a bath with Gangajal or Holi Water in the bathtub. If possible, add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder as well. Additionally, sprinkle some water at your home's main gate or entryway.
- With water in a copper kettle, pray to the Lord Sun. Mix with kumkum with red flowers. Make certain that it does not drip onto your feet.
- Worship and water any Peepal (Ficus Religiosa) trees you come across.
- Go out and get a clay water pot, fill it with water, and sprinkle with sugar. At the end of the day, donate the water to a religious institution.
- Mediate all the day long and chat Lord Vishu mantra: "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevai"
- You can not have full meal in the night during the period of the Ekadashi, however, you can eat fruit or juice (avoid sea salt).
- You may use rock salt to prepare Shabudana Khichadi (optional night meal)
- You can break the fast end the end of the Ekadashi with your regular meal.
