This poem can be seen as a meditation on a sudden return of powerful emotions, particularly related to love and memory. The “love letters to Nora” represent a deep, perhaps past or lost, connection that erupts into consciousness unexpectedly. The speaker seems both shaken and comforted by this emotional surfacing.

Despite the intensity, the final image offers calm and resolution—a spiritual resting point, a sanctuary in the continuity of life.

An electric charge comes flying down and hops

on the cornice of an old mossy wall—

its wings dusted with arcane dreams

A tightly wound spring snaps in the murmuring shade,

and captive souls fly out

through the rents in moon-charred skin

Love letters to Nora flutter in the mind—

a colony of bats erupting

into a chaotic burst of daylight

But the swallows heading south

always pause their journey mid-flight

and rest here in the suspended moonbeams
