However, after every bad time there is a positive sunshine, hope of rays exists. Furthermore, taking the decision in such difficult time, Buddha says that let it be, let that happen. Be calm and let it go. In short, we have to learn patience.

Fine example of River and Mud on Patience by Gautam Buddha

Gautam Buddha and his followers were travelling through a dark jungle, after walking miles, they heard chattering of women and bellowing of cow and other animals. After approaching they also heard a river, all the followers and Buddha smiled and continued walking until they found the river. His followers were already thirsty, however, Gautam Buddha said, “can someone please get some water?

Two of the travellers quickly broke the footpath and ran toward the river and others with Buddha were having a rest under a banyan tree. Buddha soon went meditating pose. When the two travellers appeared near the river, their happy face became dull looking at the quality of water. Few bullocks and buffaloes were crossing the river with their dirty legs. And villagers, including aged women, were washing their clothes and swimming. Due to which, the river became so dirty.

The followers soon returned to Buddha and explained the situation, but Gautam Buddha was in meditating position. However, Buddha had listened but kept quiet. After two hours of his meditation, he opened his eyes and again requested, “can I get some water, please?” this time two other travellers went near the river.

They surprised everyone when they quickly returned with high-quality water. The water was from the same river and was not filtered by any cloth. The previous two followers asked Buddha, “How come this water is pure?" "He must have brought it from someone.” Buddha opened his eyes and broke the silence. The lord said,

This water is from the river only, but the difference was simple. Due to animals crossing the river and women washing clothes, it was filthy when you two first went there. However, with the passage of time, all the mud and dirt settled down. The life is like this only. When things go wrong in life, we must learn to be patient. If the bad time comes, let it be, wait for some time, and everything will be settled in life like mud in the river.
